Giftcards in Chile may be issued in both physical and digital form. Online sales are subject to e-commerce rules. Providers must provide clear information on validity and terms of use.

In Chile, Giftcard validity is not explicitly regulated by statute. Under the Civil Code, the general limitation period is three years. Retailers may set shorter validity periods as long as they communicate them clearly.

Giftcards are subject to VAT (IVA). Tax is generally due upon redemption. A distinction between single-purpose and multi-purpose Giftcards is not legally defined but is handled in practice based on economic purpose.

Under Chilean consumer law, there is no entitlement to a refund for expired Giftcards. However, retailers must display expiry dates clearly, otherwise sanctions by the consumer authority SERNAC may apply.
